Prescription Drug Abuse on the Rise

Prescription drug abuse is an increasingly growing problem. Sleeping pills are now being abused in addition to the prescription drugs that we’ve heard about for years. The way for the addict to get sober is to go to a drug rehabilitation program. Many people feel that because they do not get the same euphoric feeling from a sleeping pill that accompanies other drugs, that they are not addicted.

However, drug rehab centers are seeing a growing number of these types of addicts. Often it is reported that it is not until they wake up in a very dangerous situation when they finally seek help. One person even reported waking up in a bathtub full of water.

Prescription drugs abuse is on the rise across the boards. Teens, adults and even the elderly are at risk for abuse and addiction. But statistics do show that those who follow the directions do not have as great of a chance of dependence versus those that take extra dosages or take them too often.

Culinary Arts Programs: From Sea to Shining Sea

The culinary arts has become a very popular subject for college students to study.  Remember Monica Geller on Friends — the professional chef?  Well, if her career sounds like a dream come true to you, there are plenty of culinary schools where you can study at — no matter where in the United States you live.

For instance, the culinary arts is quite hot on the West Coast, judging by how many L.A., San Francisco, and Portland culinary programs there are.  It’s just as popular in big cities on the East Coast.  Friends took place in New York City, but there are also plenty of opportunities in other East Coast cities, such as Boston culinary arts programs.

No matter where you are, there are plenty of opportunities in the culinary industry — both for your education and for your career.  Culinary schools are sprinkled all over the U.S., for one thing — but also, no matter where you go people always want to be able to go out to eat and have a good time.  This makes for lots of job opportunities — and a certain degree of job security — in the culinary industry.

Career Ideas for Young College-Goers and Returning Students

Are you just graduating from high school, and considering your career options?  Or are you a returning student who is looking for a career change?

Either way, there are plenty of career opportunities for you — and good colleges to prepare you for your new career.  Here are just a few suggestions.

  • Automotive – Pretty much every family has two or more cars these days, and most of them take their cars to other people for maintenance and repairs — which means lots of job security for those in the automotive industry.  There are also many schools that offer auto mechanics degrees.
  • Health care – The health care industry is booming, but at the same time there are many personnel shortages.  Jobs are pretty much guaranteed right now for health care personnel with experience and/or education.  There are also lots of colleges that offer training programs and degrees in this field, such as these Gibbs health care programs.
  • Graphic design – Our world is becoming more and more digitalized.  Twenty or thirty years ago, that just meant we needed lots of people knowledgeable in writing code.  These days, graphics have become a vital part of the Internet and other aspects of the digital world.  If you want to be a part of this industry, there are many graphic design schools to choose from, such as Harrington College of Design and the International Academy of Design and Technology in Tampa.

There are many different industries open to you if you are starting a new career or changing careers.  I hope this gives you a few ideas!

Why Travelocity Went Mobile

At the end of last year, discount travel booking website Travelocity announced that it was launching a mobile version of its web page. The new website allows users of the site to access their travel information and take care of international travel needs through their mobile phone.

Travelocity was one of the last of the major travel planning websites to go mobile. Expedia and Orbitz both offered a cell phone web version of their sites long before the announcement. So what pushed Travelocity over the edge and encouraged the company to make the leap?

The competition was part of it. After all, if everyone else has a mobile website and if you don’t then yours isn’t the page that’s going to get accessed by people on the go. Discounts are available to help in the competition too.  Expedia coupons and Orbitz coupons can be found.  Now Travelocity coupons can be found as well.

But changing technology played a greater role in the launch. With the release of the iPhone and decreased prices on other web-enabled mobile phones, an increasing number of people are using the Internet on their phones. Since there is now a bigger population using that service, websites that want to stay at the top of their field must accommodate the need for a mobile web page.

Ultimately, it boils down to a case of consumer demand. And what type of website do consumers need most when they’re on the go if it’s not one related to their travel?

Culinary Arts Institutes Make Career Changes Easy

The idea of going to cooking school after one has been in another profession for so many years can seem relatively daunting. After all, scores of individuals have spent their lives considering the culinary arts a far off dream job. It used to be that an unconventional work environment somehow meant not having a real job. Luckily, this view has been shifted aside and forgotten thanks to the new interest in fine foods and cooking. Many individuals have tossed aside their fears to get a culinary arts degree in anything from baking and pastries to vegetarian cuisine.

There were many who were still not sure about making the move until they found out attending accredited culinary arts institutes offers the same benefits as attending any other school. This means prospective students can be eligible for such things as financial aid. Knowing that one will not have to carry a large financial burden can make going back to school a much easier choice. In addition, earning a degree will not take endless years of study. With the right program, one can receive their associate’s degree in about a year. Most quality culinary programs offer not only internships but job placement as well.
